toploader lenght
I know that the original cobra's came with the toploader 4 speed in the overall lenght of 24" but has anyone used a 27" unit and what would it do to make the interior look non original? would I have problems mechanically also due to the extra 3"?

I know that I had to change my 27" to a 24" so it would fit.

The 27" Toploaders were used in full size fords to locate the shifter further back in the transmission tunnel. I think the shifter would be to far back using a 27" Toploader in a Cobra.
See David Kee's Toploader site for more info and applications: http://www.4speedtoploaders.com/index.html

Unique uses the 27" toploader in some of their cars. They make a reloacation bracket for the shifter, which puts the lever in the right place.

I think that the length difference is strictly in the fairly narrow tailshaft, so size shouldn't be much of a factor. However, if your car doesn't have IRS, use the shorter trans so that the driveshaft is longer.
Unless you don't need wheel travel.
