Brake Ducts
While my Cobra is up on jack stands waiting for a new radiator I decided to put in the vents behind the brake intakes. I'm going to get the hose tonight and I was wondering of the best way to run the hose to the rotor??
Has anyone done this?? Advise, Roscoe |
Talk to Mike (MistressMotorsports) - He's the guru...He gave me a detailed blueprint of exactly what to do...Also, run a search for "Superformance brake duct cooling" I asked the same thing a while back and some others had some informative replies...

The track turd (my car) has NACA ducts mounted to the openings in the apron, I then ty wrapped 3" flex hose to the frame and made a bracket to hold the hose aimed at the center of the front rotors. The fronts cool very good. Now if I can only figure out how to get some fresh air to those inboard discs, maybe I will be able to run more than five laps without loosing my pedal. Just ordered a 12 volt blower and I am going to experiment with blowing air on the rears. Cranky |
I just finished ducting to my front brakes. I CANNOT BELIEVE the difference! It's like night and day. The brakes STILL overheat and start to fade when I push them to hard, BUT, they come back really quick. Before, once they over heated I had to pit and wait and wait and wait..........

OH yeah! So how did I do it? Simple. Went down to Home Depot, bought some 3" duct (like you would use for your home dryer). I got the metal duct. Tie wrapped one end at the vents in the front of the Cobra (they all have them don't they)? The duct just kind of hangs there, not really attached that well yet. Then tie wrapped the other end (and some in the middle) to my anti-roll bar and where ever else I could hang it from! Pointed it at the center of my rotors and said, "Dam, lets go try it out". It's not even THAT close to the rotors, but makes a HUGE difference!
I might get serious now and do it more "permanent", then again, maybe not. It works pretty well all ready. Ernie |
You ought to throw away that aluminum dryer ducting and order some silicone rubber flexhose from a place like McMaster-Carr .
