Installing driveshaft
I just received my drive shaft from Breeze. What type of lube should I put on the spline before I put it in the hole?

I've likely missed other threads concerning your build project.
If you're simply putting the drive shaft together, use the same grease you would use in your universal joints. There should be a zerk fitting on it for that purpose. From there I'm lost. Does your transmission have a yoke already installed or are you talking about the yoke and driveshaft combination. If it is the splines on the yoke, it needs nothing but a light coating of oil so it will slide easily. Transmission oil takes care of the rest. Just be careful not to damage the rear seal on the trans when you put it together. |
on't forget to pull the rubber plug out of the rear shaft seal on the tranny. If it's new or newly rebuilt.

Driveshaft universals are typically permanently lubricated, and need no lube. Some that do, have a grease fitting in it, so use the same grease you use on ball joints. Preferably a grease with a moly additive.
The inside of the shaft with the splines that go into the trans gets the same moly chassis lube. The outside that goes against the seal gets a coating of trans fluid. Make sure this area is squeaky clean, and scratch free. Wipe a little trans fluid on the seal also before sliding the shaft in. |
