Cooling a cobra?
First, thanks to the guys who answered my wheel removal question.
My cobra has a badly damaged 3 core brass radiator. The electric fan is missing. The radiator is approx. 21"x 22". What radiator and electric fan(s) would be best to use so that it will keep cool under all driving conditions? The engine is a 351. Rich W. :JEKYLHYDE [color=teal] |
Hey,
Check out Summit Racing. Griffin aluminum radiators for a couple of hundred. Look for someone that sells Spal fans and get the 16" model. Cheers, Bill Cook :D |
Rich,
I just pulled my 4 core radiator off my car last week and replaced it with a much larger Griffin. The four core has about 4000 miles on it and I have had it tested within the last month. If you want it for $75 give me a call Sunday at 918-499-4238. If you are running a small block this radiator works great but it is not very effecient in a big block bored .060 over. |
I recently had a bad experience with Griffin. Bad customer service would not give me much satisfaction on a bad weld.
I am currently having one made by Afco Racing with no filler cap, 16 AN fittings and a drain built in. All for 255.00 (Griffin wanted 295.00 after the 'break' they gave me.) It is a two 1" row alum 19 x 26. I am running a 16" Derale fan with spiral blade. I have a 351W. Afco is at http://www.afcoracing.com/ Call and ask for Frank. He is the guy I dealt with. Roscoe |
I had a local radiator sshop make a radiator for my car. they used the tanks from an old Skylark BB car, and the core from a truck. I use the GM fan as a puller, with two rad fans on the front as a pusher set. NEVER overheats. The radiator cost me about $150 and a complimentary ride to the guy that made it for me!

I had the biggest, baddest 16" fan Permacool makes and later a 16" Flexalite fan on my Cobra and it was marginal. Just installed a Spal 16" straight blade fan and it made all the difference in the world. After this I would not buy anything else but a Spal. They may be noisy, but move air like no other. CFM ratings on all fans are bull**** because others were rated higher than Spal, but you can tell a lot of difference after installed. Bought mine from www.streetrodcatalog.com for $125.00 and had it within a week. I drove cobra off and on most all day today and it never got over 195 degrees. Used to get up to 220-230 and once to 240. It was 94 degrees outside today.

kountzecobra,
I had a permacool and mounted it a bit too close to the radiator. One day I did a power stop and the blades 'flexed' forward and made a real mess of my rad fins. OUCH! My Derale, similar to the Spal, has a spiral blade and gives me all the circulation I need. I think the straight blades, like you have, gives a bit more circulation. Had I known that way back I would have gotten that configuration. Roscoe |
Anybody want to buy a permacool fan?

Roscoe- Sounds like you have a "slightly"used radiator for sale too.
   cobrashock  |
I'll throw the radiator in for free!!!!
