Battery Cut Off once again
Okay, this topic has been touched upon many times in the past. I have a battery cutoff mounted between the seats on the rear cowl. Per the manufacturers instructions, and some of the posts, I ran it inline with the ground of the battery. The problem is, when I disconnect it with the engine running, the engine continues to run. I have seen reference to switches with 4 poles on them. Where can I get one of these? Any other suggestions? Should I move this into the positive side?

I've just finished mounting one of these in my project car (required at the track if battery is re-located to the trunk) NHRA specs require the cut-off to be connected on the positive side of the battery and must disable all electrical systems so you have to tie in the alternator as well. In my case, I ran the main alternator power line to the back (8 gauge wire) and connected it to the battery side of the switch. You can also run the power line of the ignition module to the switch insted to kill the engine. I used a simple 2-pole switch. Turbo II - Absolutely the correct answers. I don't think previous posts clearified that. I am using two kill switches, one behind the driver and the other one on the back of the car. Just tied them in series and run my hot wire to the ignition module and fuel pump from the switch behind the driver.
If you tie the switch to the ground side, as I have by personal experience seen, in a bad flipover, fuel pumps still running even with the switch turned off! Seems that they can still make ground or negitive contact. Worse yet , other components will make ground through this point and still run. If we are talking fuel pump, we are talking instant overload and fire here! :( :( :( cobrashock |
