Davies-Craig elec water pumps.....
I've been reading past posts about these water pumps and am considering using one of their systems (or maybe the new Stewart elec) on my GT40 replica.
Has anyone got any experience with this set up? I am looking at the pump and contorller system which eliminates the stock water pump and thermostat. Since summer is almoat over, I figured maybe someone has been using one in the last few months? |
We've had a GT running a Davies Craig since April - probably a couple of thousand miles. It has worked quite well from idle to 120+ mph. Good warmup with no overheating.
I like 'em. |
Thanks for the input ,Bob. Where do you have the pump mounted in the car?
I've been thinking it would be easier to have it up front in the nose ,near the radiator. This would free up much needed room, in the engine compartment, and there'd be easy acess to the pump up in the nose of the car. |
I am running a CSI electric water pump on my Cobra. It holds the engine temp at a steady 190 to 195 in traffic or at highway speeds no matter what the air temp is. I don't know if it could keep up to the cooling required at continuous high speeds, or not. The only problem I have had was with a broken ground wire. I saw the temp going up and shut it off right away. It mounts in the same place as a normal belt driven water pump.

We made a manifold that substitutes for the water pump and the electric pump is mounted off of that. It ended up right at the front of engine, just to the left and under the front pulley. If I had to do it again, I'd just gut a water pump, cut the nose off and weld up the hole.

Gutting a stock pump, trimming the front of it as much as possible & tigging a plate on the front is what I am planning on doing.
Now I just need to come up with a "Joe-cool" system of mounting & driving the alt & a/c with a serpentine belt. |
