Windshield Wipers
My cobra was built without windshield wipers. It will not pass Nevada DMV inspection without windshield wipers, although, I'm told they can be battery operated and removed post inspection. Does anyone know where I can buy such an item or offer any other suggestions?

I'm not familiar with Nevada law but here in Northern Calif. we have had a couple of Cobras that were licensed without wipers at all. Some put them in and then just remove the blades and get the nice chrome caps to go over the studs. Not many of us drive in the rain and I don't at all after turning it around leaving my driveway when the pavement was just wet. Ron61 Ron Widener%/ |
I agree, however, I had this discussion with the DMV inspector. He told me that I must have working wipers, even if I removed them after the inspection. I told him the Cobra is more like a motorcycle when it comes to riding in the rain and my argument was to no avail. :confused:
So I'm still looking for a "fix".... |
The common Lucas wiper setup is VERY easy to install and make work. It is also not too terribly expensive. :)

I actually thought I'd be in your boat, but skated through inspection without any hint of wipers. A friend of mine into Model A's suggested the following. It may or may not be acceptable to you or your state. Manual Wipers If nothing else, you possibly learned something new today. |

If you're really sure you don't want to install a permanent wiper system, I remember seeing a system available a while back that was similar to the manual type that Wadesdad referred you to, except it was electrically powered. It clamped to the top of the windshield frame and had a chord and a male cigarette lighter adapter. All you would have to do is hide an inexpensive female CL adapter behind your instr panel. Try a Street rod or HotRod shop for an inexpensive add on. A friend does the same thing on his 23 T bucket for inspection. Purchased the kit from a speed shop in Houston.

The Lucas OEM setup although odd by U.S. standards, isn't that big of a deal to install, and they work quite well.
I do drive car in rain, have wipers and washers installed, and with 17" Z tires, the car drives amazingly well in the rain. Not at all the hocky puck I expected. Soft top and sidecurtains keep car surprisingly dry. Now, if you don't plan on driving in the rain, don't have surprise showers that come up, or live in someplace where it just never rains, it's kinda silly to put them in. Street Rod shops carry the style mentioned above that clamp onto windshield frame. Then take them off and put them in your "DMV Inspection box" for next year. |
