110 Octane Leaded
Is this stuff ok to run in my motor ? I'm pumping about 12:5.1 compression and usually run 100 octane. Thanks in advance.

Is that research or motor rating
|
Ummmmmm - Not sure...I was at the Coronado races this weekend and almost ran out of gas when I got into the car corral. So I drove over into the paddock area and filled'er up with 110 Leaded made by Trick Racing. The guy selling it said it was ok to run and the lead actually created a cushion for the valves. Anyway, my mechanic said it won't hurt it but it's better to just stick to the 100 octane unleaded.

Back in the old days, valve seats were not a hardened material because there was lead in gasoline, which acted as a lubricant. As leaded gas was phased out, high-performance motors had a dilema to deal with. The answer was replacing the valve seats with a harder material that could withstand the contact. Of course, all motors today are built with hardened seats so that unleaded gas can be used.
I don't see anything wrong with running leaded gasoline. |

Your motor ought to love it.

FIXIT - your right...My motor actually DOES love it. I think to really get the most out of it I'd have to advance the timing a bit, but I would rather not mess with it. It does feel like it pulls a bit harder and faster though.
ScottJ - The guys that were selling the stuff are actually the Sunoco race gas distributor for Southern California, located in Huntington Beach. Trackside Racing Supplies Ray Hocking 15594 Producer Lane Huntington Beach, CA. 92649 714/ 895-7683 Good guys and they were very happy to sell me 17 gallons at 5 bucks per !!! LOL. |
$5 per gal. I am sure they donate 4¢ a gal
to the Sierra Club. Pretty rich stuff if you ask me. Hell, I pay that much for a gallon of raki! |
