Stainless Steel sidepipes
Will stainless pipes make much difference in the exhaust sound ? It is my understanding that it will be louder for one and have a much more crisp and raspy rumpty rump...Especially since I am running over 12:1 compression. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance.

All my former customers who bought stainless pipes bought the loud ones for god only knows what reason. I hear they make some that are not super loud, but all that I saw were cop calling megaphones. Some of those guys started wearing earplugs while driving after the stainless pipes. But they look nice and are shiny.

Fixit - WHAT ???? ;) ;) I agree, but I like loud and don't drive the car much on the street at all, it isn't even registered...However, I do not like shiney and was wondering if I could just hollow out my current pipes but I'm being told they will not allow enough back-pressure. I'd much rather keep my black ones, hollow them out and have them ceramic coated (I found a place that does it for $20/ft).

Call Doug's muffler's in anaheim. He makes great headers and such. I have had him cut the baffled section out of sidepipes, replace that segment, then ceramic coat the pipes. You can get as much or little baffling as you desire.

Why not just have them sandblasted/beadblasted ...or etched?
I will have stainless pipes on my new turnkey...I have stainless mufflers on several of my bikes...the only downside I can see is that they turn a bit golden after they get some use, but this can be polished off.

I actually love that look when they start to turn gold and bluish from the heat...but then again I don't like shiny exhaust pipes on race cars...

Fixit - I had my headers done by Doug, goregous...So are you talking about shortening the sidepipes and just getting rid of the larger diameter center section where the packing and baffeling is ? Dean at HOC was suggesting the same thing but making it so they can interchanged...If I remember correctly you said this as well on here once...

You could have your sidepipes modified with removable baffling sections, that can be swapped for turnouts (or straight pipes) at the track for open header action. Just like Dean mentioned. Or just have Doug replace the large diameter section with a different baffle to get the noise/backpressure you desire. Depends on if you ever plan to drive with mufflers again. My headers were made by Doug in 91, just had them ceramic coated, the old chrome wasn't pretty anymore. If it wasn't for the one dent, nobody would believe that they had been run, for 10 years!

Side Pipes
Go for the stainless ones. They are extra loud and sound fantastic.

I know a place that makes SS sidepipes for Superformance cars. They also make the mufflers and ask you how loud you would like it. It may be worth the time to talk to them. I will look up the info. for them and email it to you.
