Owners of older SPFs/Throttle pedal problem
To owner of older SPFs (mine is #250):
Well, my throttle pedal shaft was slipping again where it attaches to the linkage arm that bolts to the carburetor linkage rod. I removed the piece that looks like a circle attached to a three to four inch long arm. The circle piece goes onto throttle pedal shaft and is then fastened with two allen bolts. A while ago, I had the same problem and Dennis Olthoff told me to put in longer allens after grinding a point on them. I did and it worked for about one season. It started slipping again, I took the allen out (the only one I could get out) to regrind the tip and it looks like the threads are stripped. Long story short, now that I have disconnected the steering shaft to get this damn piece off, other than getting new replacement from SPF, anyone know of a great permanent fix to this---other than buying a new SPF ;-) I had thought of drilling a through hole in the shaft and in the round piece, but the shaft diameter is fairly small and I think it would induce a major weakpoint. Open to ideas. |
I know it wouldn't be SPF issue, but could you use a cable? Other brands use cables, and they work fine. If you think a cable would work, then I would suggest Lokar. They are available through Summit. Just a thought......

Mine has done the same thing several times. the final fix was to drill a hole and put in a steel pin. Haven't had a problem since.

Yes,
I have fixed that problem several times. First was as told, to put a pointed lockscrew in there, but that only works for a while. I have welded the linkage arm onto it's shaft, but that is a pain, and you better be right the first time. The best way is to drill it for a roll pin, use a distributor gear roll pin ,it won't slip on you any more. |
