Line Lock Question
I am in the process of installing a line lock. The unit itself is now mounted and the brake lines attached. The only thing left to do is to run the electrical connections. I want to use a switch, not a push button since I would like to be able to use the line lock to hold the car when stopped on a hill, at a red light for example.
Now for the question. For those of you that have a line lock, where did you mount the switch? On the shifter? On the dash? Somewhere else? What are the pros and cons of each location? I don't want to change my mind about the location after I drill some holes. :CRY: :CRY: :CRY: Wayne |

I use a Hurst shifter knob with a built in momentary push button switch that is on the top the shifter knob. Hands on the shifter and the thumb pressing the down the on the button will engage the front brakes. Ken |

I put the line loc button on the left side of the dash,out of the way of all the other switches. You don't want to accidently hit it or leave it 'on' . Dangerous things happen when the front wheels lock and your movin' Good Luck, Perry.:cool: |
Wayne, I had a toggle switch in the dash not hooked to anything..so that's where mine is
Perry, you would have to have your front wheels already locked, then accidently hit the button, for that to happen. A line loc doesn't add pressure, only keeps what is already there. |

I would prefer to use a switch than a button since, as I said, I would like to ba able to hold the car at a light. I have been considering using one of the "covered" switches. Less chance of flicking it on by accident. Jack I am installing a Biondo Line Lock and I believe that it states in the instructions that once it is "on" you can increase the pressure by pressing on the brake pedal again. Almost sounds like a sort of check valve. I have no idea if that is reason for worry. In any event, I am going to also install an "idiot light" to warn me when it is on. Wayne |
I would bet that they have the check valve for those that leave it on while driving, on accident. That way if it were locked and you didn't know it you could still apply the brakes and slow down, versus applying the brakes only to realize that no pressure can get to the calipers.

Something that might work pretty well for you is to create a circuit with a couple of relays along with a push button and connection to the normal brake light circuit.
Push the push button and the brake pedal at the same time and the line lock would come on and stay on. Touch the brake again and the line lock would drop out. No toggle switch to leave in the wrong position and a bit of fail-safe (touch the brake pedal and the lock drops out). |

Wayne, I also have the Biondo loc.....you can increase the pressure if you didn't have all your foot mashing the brake when you set it the first time..and if you're not mashing the brake as hard as you can when you set the loc....I think you're defeating it's purpose. I have never found a situation where I only needed some of the clamping power of the loc....Anyway, with the toggle switch you have to make a conscious effort to apply the loc..Just my $.02

Thanks, that is the way I also look at it. I sat in the car last night and I believe that I can move my hi-beam switch and put the line lock switch in it's place. I will use one of the "covered" switches so it will be almost impossible to turn it on by accident. Are you still going to be running those straight through pipes this year at the fling? I am in the process of making some shorty pipes. It will be interesting to see which car is louder. **) :JEKYLHYDE :LOL: :3DSMILE: |

BTW here's a first, I put the inserts in the sidepipes....and my wife didn't like it....she said I want that in your face, don't mess with me sound back....needless to say they were only in there for one day......

I have mine installed with a switch and its way to the left with a light to remind me. Line locks may vary but I know mine is not a set and forget, after about a minute it will release, you may want to check your instructions.

My wife also likes it as loud as possible. We must be the only two guys with Cobras that have wives that like 'em loud. Fred Good point about forgetting it "on". That is the reason that I will also be installing an idiot light. :3DSMILE: Wayne |
I pulled the dash out last night and it looks like I can easily move a couple of things to make room for the switch where I want it to be.

Make that three wives! I added baffles, she said too quiet, so I took out and sawed them in half, now she's happy. Now it has that "Log Truck" sound!
