remote oil filters
One of the things I wanted to get done on the Cobra this winter is add a remote oil filter setup. Two reasons, one, with the Unique I have to use the short Ford filters to avoid frame interference and second, I need somewhere to plug in the oil temperature sending unit ( wouldn't fit the Milodon oil pan drain plug). I've been looking at the TD Performance and Summit brands in the Summit catalog. They both look about the same and are the only ones offered. Anyone use these? Anyone know of something better for the street/track? Would like to put a tee in the "out" line coming from the motor for the oil temp. sending unit.

With most remote units you don't need a tee. The remote units usually have 4 places to connect, One in, one out, plug one and use the other for the temp gauge. Bob |
Ford makes/has made several different oil filter adapters that will "point" the filter in a direction away from the frame rail. One that comes to mind was on a 460 engine in an Econoline. I used one several years. It mounts the filter at about 30 degrees, it allowed me to eliminate a short filter on my installation. As a side benifit with a little work you can block a passage, redirect the flow and plumb an oil cooler with it.

First off you Milodon pan should have two threaded ports, one for draining in the rear of the pan and another for the temp unit. Why doesn't the sender fit?
Second, make sure you get a billet block off and throw away the one you get with the remote kit. The block off is available from Canton, Pegasus Auto Racing and Racer Parts Wholesale. Also, if you are going to use a single remote then consider using the billet ones available from the sources I mentioned. No matter what you do stay away from that cheapo blockoff. Roscoe |

Actually Canton does have a nice looking billet piece that mounts to the block and that is the piece that I was most afraid of being a casting. Aluminum castings can be kind of fragile and you don't know which direction your outlets are going to be facing. Makes the Canton look pretty good. I think I may go that way. Canton also has a nice aluminum coolant recovery can and I need to replace the plastic one I've got. May get that too. h dog |
I would'nt trust a $10K engine to a $20 piece of cast potmetal, in a high vibration environment. Go with a substantial piece; check with Hal coople, he has a stock car outlet that sell slightly used bulletproof billet nascar units.
