A question on weatherstrip/seals
What is the norm or preferred application for seals on the doors trunk and hood?
Does it go on the doors etc or the car side? I am not there, but was wondering for after it's painted. Thanks Tim |
We just did ours this past weekend, and according to the ERA manual the stripping for the doors and the trunk goes on the car, but the stripping for the hood goes on the hood itself.

I've seen them a little different.
It's attached to the body for the hood and trunk. As far as the doors go, it's attached to the door itself. |
huh, well, my dad was responsible for that. :)

Ikesta,
I think you have it 180 degrees backwards. Are you sure? TURK |
Our preferences:
Hood - body (but hood is OK) Doors - on door (less damage from wayward feet) Trunk - on body lip (channels water out of trunk) |
I have seen it both ways. I kept all of the weatherstripping off the body since it looks much cleaner when a door, the hood, or trunk is open.

Is this going to be like a bb v sb thread or a real v replica thread?
Are we getting a bit anal? Roscoe http://www.priveye.com/sounds/war_room.wav |
Okay okay, so we were wrong. I leave my dad alone for twenty minutes and look what happens. :) I was wiring the dash, so don't blame me. :D

LOL Thanks guys ....I might have known it may be contentious......
Glad to see our faithful Bob P. give some input......Kirkhams....you out there? Hood&Trunk gets body Doors gets doors Basically was looking for the norm and Bob has given some good reasons too. Wayne... it would look very clean if there was no stripping in any opening. I think thats how my builder does all his cars if he does a turnkey. One thing I have noticed is that someguys have quite a wide doorsill in which they ahve managed to line them with rolled aluminum. I surely don't have that much but do like that look as well. Thanks guys good input Tim |
|
Yes Roscoe....how wide is your sill?

Whaler,
I used 1/2 x 3/4 alum angle from Home Depot. They also make 3/4 x 3/4 and 1 x 1. The stuff is very thin but the secret is to heat it up with a torch and take the temper out of it. It gets like butter and is easy to form and apply. I drilled and tapped the holes for 6/32 stainless button heads. Roscoe |
