17in Edelbrock Rims...
Looking at the 454's...
http://www.edelbrockwheels.com/wheel....asp?wheel=454 They are 17x8. I plug in the size at tires.com and it said that I can fit 245x45/17 and 275x40/17s. My questions is could I put the 245s in the front and 275s in the back? Would that work? I don't know much about tire sizes and rims. Any input you have would be great! Thanks! GS |
17x8 is a bit narrow for a 275/40/17. I think the ideal is a 9.5 inch rim for the 275. The sidewall bulge will look a bit odd compared to the front.

Got Snake I to have been shopping for wheels and tires was at the local Les Schwab and looked at the 454 rims and didn't belive they could come with the correct off set for the Cobra might make sure.

Wheels for a Cobra. The Ede 454 is a nice looking wheel, but the sizes and offsets are wrong. It might work in front, but not in back.
Least expensive Halibrand style wheel I found was the TeamIII at $300 each without spinners. 17X8 front, 17x9.5 rear. Those are the sizes you need for 235 front, 275 rear. Before T3 introduced their 17's, almost went with a set of Centerline style 13. But they build the wheel to your specs as far as bolt pattern, and offset goes. They look quite nice, very lightweight, and balanced up OK. For Ford type suspension, I set backspacing on the wheel centerline and it worked out fine. Other setups you'll have to measure it, or ask other guys with same setup what they're using. |
Thanks for the input! I will be going with a midstates or maybe even a FFR. :rolleyes: Since I have decided to build from a roller instead of a turnkey its back to the drawing board for me.

I would work backwards from a basic overall diameter of 26.5"+/- to get a size that would look right first off. Most tire companies list over all diameter in their spec sheets. Beyond that find someone willing to work with you to get them to fit. It might take a try or two to see which is going to rub.

I have a set of compomotive take off's you can get with tires (some useable tread but nothing spacial) for $800. They need to be buffed out from sitting they are in my gallery.. (on the car)

After Team III, Image wheels, made in England, would have been my next choice. I used a set of Image spinners intended for Centerlines, on Team III wheels. Image still a little pricey, but not as pricey as Compomotive. Team III's still came out less pricey of the bunch.
The Edelbrock 17" 454 is a nice, period correct, style (ehh, kinda, sorta) correct wheel, but they only offer it in an 8" width. Cobra rear wheels need to be wider if you're going to install the big meats on the back. 9 1/2" for small block guys, 11" for big blocks. |
That was another thing that bugged me about them...only 8in wide. I'm starting to look at the Cobra R 17s. They are 9in wide. I still got time to think things through...I may just get the Edel 15s...:rolleyes:

I've added a few photos to my gallery. They're a little too big to paste into this posting. You'll note that I didn't go with the original Hallibrand style wheels although ImageWheels does offer those as well. I don't recall about the price. I bought them over a year ago and I was happy with the price at the time. Their prices and photos of all their wheels are posted on their web site. Be sure to note the 20% discount for paying in full at the time you place the order. The price on their site is in British pounds but you can covert it at one of many websites. Chris |
