Buzz -we have been trying to get a Cobra onto "Top Gear" since the programme restarted. Mass emails proved futile. Never mind, maybe one day.
Anyhow, I could not stand the ignomy of posting a time slower than the old ladies AND leaving oil all over the track!! |
Buzz,
my car ( unique) has the same problem. ...same fuse. I do not have a wireing diagram. would it be possible for you to take a digital picture of yours and e-mail it to me? Thanks, Steve:) PS, A relay is the way to go. |
Fordnut, thanks, I will try running negative jumpers from the battery and see what happens. Almost the entire harness is grounded through one main ground lug on the cowl brace behind the dash. The cowl brace is connected to the body on a Unique and then bolted to the frame. Perhaps not the ideal place for the main ground. You've got me thinking now that maybe I should extend that ground lug and run it directly to the frame. Hmmmm.
Steve, what I have is actually an installation manual for the Prodesign wiring harness. It's a 61 page book that has hookup instructions by number for each individual component/gauge/switch, etc. There is no actual complete wiring diagram but a series of cross references by wire #, harness section # and page #. There are drawings of the connections at each component and a fuseblock schematic showing each fuse's connection by wire #. If your car is using the Prodesign harness, I would highly recommend that you order a manual from Unique. If there is something specific you need, I certainly can copy that page or section and email it to you. Let me know. Wilf, It would be great to see a shootout between the manufacturers, like Dax, Crendon, GD, etc on Top Gear. Quick question; I've seen pictures and specs of one mean looking, low slung Cobra called a Fieldbay Magnum (I think). Do you know much about that car? |
Buzz - cannot claim to be an expert on the Magnum cobra, but they are still, as far as I know being produced, and all the ones I have seen have a very low stance. Lot of them used for racing I believe.
The UK Cobra Replica Club is staging a Cobra shoot-out type event in May. You would probably be able to see a report on that either on the UK forum, or on www .totalkitcar.com |
Buzz,
I may as well get my .02 cents worth in. I agree with the ground theory. What I did was ground my battery to the frame as the battery is in the trunk. Then I have two ground straps from the frame to the motor and one to the cowel bar. All of my instruments are on a seperate ground to frame. Of course I had to keep a schematic of all the changes so I can work on it if I ever have to but I have never had a problem since I did this. There is no such thing as to much ground on a fiberglass car. You can also try cutting your headlight lead out in the motor compartment at a place where you can add a relay and then use the lead from the car to operate the relay, putting your battery through the relay contacts. Also make sure that the headlights have a good ground. Ron |
Buzz,
Thanks for the reply. I think I will take your advice and see what the Weavers have to offer. I prefer a good wireing diagram to an instruction book. Steve:) :) |
Thanks for the help, guys! Job 1 is to beef up my grounds and add a relay for the headlights. I'll let y'all know how it works out. Steve, if you can't get your hands on an actual schematic, try to get a copy of the Prodesign manual - it can be a very handy reference when working on the electrical system.
