Rock guard for my cobra
I have seen a rubber type coating on a few cobra's, used as a rock guard, just in front of the back wheel well. The coating appeared to be of the spray on variety. Does anyone have a brand name product utilized for this purpose and if so where can you obtain it and what is the prep needed. Thanks for the help in advance

Some of the guys use the spray on Bedliner material, 3M also makes a product in spray can, available at professional body supply houses.

This should do the trick: 3M ScotchCal Protective Film

Have you installed the 3M stuff on your car?? If so, did you do the install yourself or did you have a body shop do it? Also, what was the total cost? Thanks, Mike |
Argo, click on shelby and it comes up 'no data', search cobra and the same?.

The scotchpro is not too hard to install. spray the area with soapy water, lay the film into place, sqeegie the air bubbles out with a creditcard wrapped in soft cloth, a heat gun on low can help shrink the edges and speed up drying time. It is just like tinting a window.

Who makes those chrome rock guards? I've always thought those looked sweet. How do they physically attach to the car? How much do they cost? Since they have the words "Cobra" and "chrome" in their descriptons, I would expect a LOT!

I plan on buying from these guys: http://www.invinca-shield.com/ASP/makeo.asp
They sell it precut for Cobras. |
Pathenry - I would suggest calling them, they must not have pics of a Shelby Cobra - or maybe he threatened to sue them if they used a pic of a REAL one ;)
Chaplin - House of Cobras did it for me. It was like $300 installed. A bit pricy but you will notice it in the long run when your front end is nice and clean a year down the road... Like Fixit said, it is very easy to install, assuming it is the right fitment for your particular Cobra. Even still, a bit of minor cutting or adjustments wouldn't be too hard...Steady hand and an exacto knife - euuu boy....%/ %/ |
Chip Coat
Coach Mike,
This is the stuff you asked about. Black Chip Coat, Stock # AC-B Crest Industries,INC. Wyandotte MI 48192 (313)283-4100 I got it from a body shop a few years ago. This is the Stuff Porsche uses on their rear fenders. Hope this helps, Cranky |
HEY COACH DUCT TAPE AND A SHARPIE WORK FOR ME! :D :D :D
|
From the way you describe the installation of the stuff it sounds like it's just static cling vinyl. I can pick it up locally for like 2 bucks for a 3 x 3 sheet.

No, it is not just a static cling vinyl. It is a top quality 3M product with a good adhesive on one side. And let me say it is not too hard to install, but not easy either. If you have done window tinting, it will be easier for you. I screwed up the first two I tried to put on until I figured out how to do it. It isn't cheap, but neither is repainting stone chips.
