Jag(4.75") pattern on ford 9"

Ok, has anyone put 5 x 4 3/4" axles on a ford 9" to get the different bolt pattern!?

I found a place that makes the front..but wondering about the rear end. Do I need new axles or is there a new "hub" that can be "fitted" to the existing axles, so that I can go from 5x4.5 to 5x4.75 pattern?

thanks

Blake, your axles came from Moser. You could send them back to them and have them redrilled, also redrill the rotors.

If there is enough material to the outside just have new holes machined between the existing holes of the axles you have????

the fronts will be easy to re-drill...on the rear axles, there's probably only 3/8"-1/2" of "hub" to go wider...it would be close...and i worry about the strength, having the holes that close to the edge of the hub? should I worry?

It sounds like you only need to move the hole outward by .125 (1/8") for each stud? Contact axle company for their advice regarding strength of the flange after remachining. The axle flanges should be machined by someone with the proper machinery. The setup in a conventional vertical mill would be difficult at best and time consuming but the rotors are much easier and can be done on a mill. The proprietary machinery that the axle manufacturers use gang drill all the holes in the flange at the same time and eliminate the possibility of error. Any runout here would create a missalignment with the rotor and a potential vibration problem. This is a time consuming job because of the repeated setups. Leave it to the prosl........just my 2 cents

been there........Rick

no worries

It's a straightforward job on a machine with DRO (digital read out) better still a prototrac or similar for a bolt circle program. Indicate the center and redrill the bolt pattern. Be careful to use matching diameter and length studs to your front wheels. The new studs will give the hole size for the serrations to work. Check jegs or similar for the studs. I've laid them out with a caliper and redrilled them on a drill press before, it's not that hard. Angle between holes 72 deg, radius is 2.375" and 2.792" between holes in a straight line. Just take your time and check recheck etc. If you screw up the holes can be plug welded and redrilled.
Do it!
