I use Simpson belts. I guess I'm getting a little senile because I can't remember if the Simpson brackets came straight and I bent a couple for the fifth belt between the legs or if I straightened them for my lap belts and shoulder harness. I didn't talk to the manufacturer. My lap belts are entirely inside the cockpit. The belts do not extend through the fiberglass. Only the metal bracket extends through the fiberglass. The bracket is shaped like a "T" with a slot at the top for the belt and a hole at the bottom for a bolt. The wide part (top of T) that the belt slips through is inside the cockpit above the carpet, the narrow part slides through the fiberglass and is attached to the outside frame or to an "eye" bolt under the tunnel. My shoulder harness belts, however, do slide through the fiberglass, but I installed my carpet through the fiberglass hole and have not seen any fraying of my belt. My shoulder harness is attached to the frame that extends up above the Jag rear end. Hal, I sorry, but I'm not familiar enough with the Superformance to recommend a belt installation. My comments to Keith were for a Unique install. I'll see if I can borrow someone's digital camera and take some pictures of my install. I'll also inspect the brackets to see if I straightened them or bent them. |

I was able to follow your descriptions quite well. Sounds like this could be a solution to my installation problems, assuming I keep the "pull-up" belts (which I probably will). Thanks for the valuable info! As for the shoulder belts, Mine pass through the bulkhead (slightly below my shoulders) and back to one of the rollbar kickback support bolts (Grade 8). This creates a relatively "flat" attitude for the belt because the support bolt is so high on the chassis. On the passenger side, Unique has a mirror-image matching bracket for the passenger's shoulder belt anchor. My anchors are not the T-type like you described above. They're more like a big fat triangle, which means a portion of the belt material will pass through the fiberglass floor. This fact concerns me slightly (road debris could damage belt material, etc.) I'd almost prefer a tall "T" like you've described. Keith :) |

I prefer the pull up type personally, as they are easier to adjust while seated in the car. Any good racer supply place should have the T type mountings you need. If you need names from me, I can shoot them over to you offline. |

I'm not sure I can replace the triangle anchors with T anchors. The belt runs through the anchor and is doubled back onto itself and sewed together. Changing the anchor would require unstitching the threads, replacing the achor, and re-sewing the belt. Doing so would undoubtedly weaken the belt. Unless there's a solution I'm not seeing here. I had just thought you may be interested in new belt anchors and the belts and just update the whole assembly as a kit.
