Aussie Mike 02-22-2003 10:34 PM

OZVENOM, Are you listening?

One of our Aussie brethren OZVENOM is building one as we speak. Running gear is Nissan GTR Skyline from memory. Powerplant is a twin turbo Lexus V8. Should be an awesome machine when it's finished.

OZVENOM will be able to tell you more about it.

Scott - I was wondering how long it would take for you to jump in on this thread..... ;)
Next couple of weeks.... why don't we enter it in the race meeting at Qld Raceway next weekend!!! ;) **) :3DSMILE:

Orange - You have to see Scott at work to fully understand & appreciate what he's capable of. He's building my car at the moment. While it takes me 30 minutes to measure and figure out how I'm going to do something to the car, he's already got in beside me and measured, fabricated and fitted it before I've even had a chance to work out how to make it in the first place... %/

*Bump!*

I'd like to hear an update on the AWD Cobra. With pictures please!

Thanks!

Hi Matt,

Scott's car is on the road and was an awesome site to see at the nationals. It's running a large single Turbo and is extremely quick. Scott took me for a spin up the road and when that boost comes in, look out! He hasn't got the front diff and gearbox in yet but knowing Scott it'll happen bofore too long.

There are a bunch of pictures in Scott's Gallery.

Not a Cobra but...

A friend had a video about a guy who took the driveline out of a World Ralley car and put it into a VW Golf. The video was in German but it was about a 15 minute piece about the car. My German is not what it used to be and my conversions may not be accurate but it sounded like an AWD Golf with approx 900hp. There was a bunch of in car and exterior footage of this thing going around a track and it was awsome to say the least and the pay off is that it also can be driven on the street. How would you like to get stomped in your Cobra by a VW Golf.

That is my main question, how or where can it fit with that V8 in there? Is there actually room for the front diff?

I was think more in the line of an modded STi drive train to output 400 to the wheels. Much much lighter than a V8 and seems like it would have a lot more room to work with.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Matt

Matt - while there's no denying the potential of the WRX motor, the extra costs in building / maintaining the transmission means that the V8 option still looks like the way to go (in my opinion).

There are some world class WRX engine builders here in Australia (9.1 seconds @ 148.9mph  ), they are spending big $$$ to get there, and either using autos or high-end straight-cut dog boxes.

Scott OZVENOM is planning on using the Lexus V8, GTR skyline 6 speed trans, GTR rear diff, and Toyota/Lexus front diff. The chassis rails will need a few inches extra clearance, and the steering rack will be converted from rear mount to front mount. The car already has the Nissan AWD front hub/upright assembly fitted. He had a Supra 5 speed trans in the car for our Cobra Nationals - where he ran fastest outright - but has since sheared all of the teeth off third gear. No big surprise, considering the torque of a turbocharged V8... For the time being, a 6 speed Supra Turbo box will be used, and I have a feeling that Scott will sell this car and design / incorporate all necessary AWD components into his new car.
