Amp Gauge ??
Hello,
I can not seem to get my AMP gauge working. It's a Stewart Warner Gauge Set. I have a CR wiring harness and I am running a HOT wire (POS #130) to the "+" side pole on the back of the AMP Gauge, and then from the Other pole on the back of the gauge I Ran a wire to the PWR in of my fuel gauge.... I thought this would be a good source of constant current pull. The Fuel Gauge works properly with this configuration, but the AMP Gauge needle does not move at all..... What am I doing wrong?? . Thanks RZ |
That would work if it was a voltmeter. An ammeter needs to have all the car's current flowing through it (except battery cables) to work, right now yours is just measuring the current draw of the fuel gauge, which is nothing. The 10 awg red wire that connects the fuse panel to the hot side of the starter solenoid (your's may be different, this is a typical setup) this wire needs to be bisected by the ammeter. Voltmeters are safer and easier to install.

Fixit, your right about the volt meters, I wish S&W offered a 2 5/8 volt meter.

Fixit,
I knew there was something wierd going on. Now, I can correct this problem. Thanks, RZ |
Amp gauge
I'm currently removing a Lucas Amp gauge with the bouncing needle and replacing it with an Autometer Volt gauge. Autometer makes a nice look-a-like 427 gauge package. Picked them up from Rick at HDR.

and they make both 427 style and FIA style- so which ever size you are looking for you can get about any guage you want from them, they are fast friendly and look VERY similar. (and as compared to the originals- well they work WAY better)
