Proper tire PSI??
Running Good Year Eagle GT II on front and rear. Max PSI on both is 44 (according to the tire).
Car is listed to the left here..... What is everybody's take on the best PSI for handling (car is a regular driver), without making the ride stiffer than it has to be? Presumably safety at higher speeds is an issue too... |

I use the Kruse Goodyear, treaded non-DOT and run 25 front and 22 rear. Cheers, Pete C |

Running pressure that is too high will reduce the tire's footprint and adhesion. Because these cars are light and the tires big you do not need to run high pressures. I've been running my SPF at 20 PSI all around with no problems. If I went to the track I would add 4 to 5 pounds. Bob |

Before I ran on my Bridgestones and Yokohamas (both treaded high performance tires), I talked with the technical people at their US headquarters about tire pressure, explaining exactly what I have (including weight - my Cobra is heavier than most), intend to do, etc. Both manufacturers strongly recommended that I not run the tires below 25 psig. They both said that the tire pressure calculator puts my theoretical pressure at around 22-23 psig. (I presume that lighter cars would be slightly less). I run my tires at 25 psig with no complaints about handling or performance. The few times that I have run on the track, I have run at around 28 psig (cold). I don't know for sure, but there may be a situation like the Firestone tires on Ford Explorers at work here - with tread separation. If they say don't go below 25 psig, I'm going to heed their advise!!! Regards, Frank Newman |
I was right about where pete is running on 15's.. I run my 17's at 28..
