Just changed the oil at 400 miles, and with a floor jack and one Griot's Garage 3 ton jackstand it was a 15 minute operation. And I know it was done right, Valvoline racing 20/50 and a K & N gold filter. I don't trust oil change companies for this car. I had to go thru too much to get her.

I have a unit at the fire shop that is very similar. We call it "Vacula" because it sucks so well:D
It is great for evacuating power steering units, manual transmissions, etc. or sucking out that 1 extra quart of oil that you shouldn't have dumped in!

I own a shop in Florida and we have a smaller version of that tool. It's called a R.E.T. (Rapid evacuation tool) tool. Great for drawing off fluids and most can be used to 'inject' fluids (Great for manual transmission fluid changes).:D I've heard dozens of scary stories about "quick" lube shops (i.e. Jiffy Lube, Mobil Express, etc.) Here are three of my favorites:

1. If they don't have your oil filter available they will just clean off the existing one and they will fill oil to the lowest point on the fill line of dipstick. This from a former employee of two different quick lube shops.

2. One of my customers was out of town visiting family. Before they headed back they got an oil change at a quick lube and went on their way. Twenty miles later the engine started knocking and seased. Oil plug wasn't tightened.

3. One of my female customers got an oil change on a Sunday (I'm closed on Sunday) and was shown "her" tranny fluid that was black. She declined to have it done under their protests that it would destroy her transmission if it wasn't done immediately. She brought it to me that Monday and I showed her the fluid straight off the dipstick. Quess what, bright pink. She said that wasn't the color they showed yesterday.

I prefer to do most things myself. Nothing feels as good as a job well done, especially when you did the job yourself.

Yes I do have one (got it for x-mas) have not used it yet,
since my snake is still at DV's in Ohio. :(

But I've heard they are great.

I used to have my oil chanded in my work car but when I bought a new 2001 F150 that requires 5W-20 weight oil that all changed. Unless I want to make an appointment at the local Ford dealer I cannot find any place that carries that weight oil. When I asked every one of the quick change places said they just put 10W-30 or 10W-40 in and it would be OK. I said what about what the manufacturer recommendations. They all say it is just for gas milage. I say that may be true but if I have an engine failure for using heaver weight oil it could void my warranty.

I think the new engines are built with closer tollerances and therefore require thinner oil. Kind of like the old high pressure/volume oil pumps causing distrubutor gear failures. If it was ok to run 10W-30 0r 40 then it would be listed in the manual.

A friend had a very large shop vac in his hangar that had "Darling" stenciled on the side. I asked one time why he had done this. His reply was "Anything with that much suction needs to be called darling".;)

I have found it works much better to try and extract the oil when it is warm. I tried pulling cold 10W-30 from a boat once and it took forever to get it to work. I finally gave up, poured what little I had taken out back in. Hooked up the fake lake and ran it for about 15 minutes, then it came right out.

I have used that thing before, works great (warm oil please).

BiB, your a brute. 15 minutes for you is 2 hours for us old guys.

Excaliber, I would not trust some "goom-bah" to tighten my canton plug (much less inspect for engine material on the magnet), or tighten the filter. IMO of course. :3DSMILE:

We use ours for adjusting oil levels in engines and transmissions.I work on heavy junk for FT Lewis.

Make your own.
A heavy plastic three or five-gallon bucket, a venturi vacuum from Harbor Freight.
Drill and tap two holes for fittings in the top of the bucket. Run one line to the vacuum and the other to whatever you want to suck. Start with only 10 PSI or the bucket can give its self a permanent hickey.
I use this setup for many different things.
