Front anti-sway bar for Arntz/Butler???

Has anybody been successful w/ an installation of an anti-sway bar on the MGB front end of an Arntz/Butler Cobra? It seems that it should be possible..., but I've recently given up on the installation of the stock MGB 3/4" bar..., too many hacks required to get it to work..., the frame and the bar just weren't meant for each other.

So..., another question: can anybody recommend a good shop in N. California that can fabricate custom suspension pieces?

Thanks!

lakester..

I just bought a brand-new MGB unit from Ron Butler. It has a MONSTROUS a-sway bar. Haven't put the thing together yet, but if Ron B sent it to me---it will go together. The a-sway is seemingly over an inch in diameter (!). I also have on ther car at present a unit without an anti-sway bar.... Want to try the new one out. The old unit looks to be in restorable condition and does seem to have the appropriate fitments for the bar. I am trying to sell it---but not until I've tried the newbie. This is the reason that I want to start an Arnzt-Butler site or registry. Keep in touch.

John,

I just picked up both front and rear bar assemblies from Ron on friday. I do have the installation procedure as well as some digital pictures if you need any help :) . I will get the Aldans off the car and into UPS this coming week.

Chifo,
I would love to see the pic's of Ron's front assy. I have been looking for some time for an upgrade / replacement to the MGB suspension on my Butler. The hiway handling is very nice, but when you get agressive, it bottoms easily.

Thanks,

Roy

Blur,

Ben Stein is one smart man... I have the pics on my office computer. I have some of both the front and rear suspension as well as the modifications made to the front end. What problems are you having with your car? Front, rear or both. I might be able to provide some direction. If you need any parts let me know what your looking for as I will be up to visit with ron the end of the week and will see if he has what you need. Tell me what pic's you want to see and I will send them to your email as they are too big to post on this site.

All the best

Chifo,

It's all about the front - no issue with the rear. I have the lever arm damper and spring. I have been looking for an upgrade / conversion to a coil-over-telescopic-shock. I have seen units from Moss motors and I know some of the Butler's have an upgraded front.

I would like to see the pictures of what your upgrade looks like, and the modifications I will need to make to install (front suspension only). If you are visiting Ron soon, tell him "hi" and "I love his (my) car". I have talked to him a couple of times and he seems like he still likes to hear about his old cars. I was not aware that he still has parts for them.

Thanks,

Roy

Lakester,

Yeah, the legs of the MGB front bar are too short.

It doesn't take much to fabricate brackets for a roll bar. I've had three different ones on the front and two on the rear. I am currently running a 1" early Mustang bar on the front and a 3/4" Mercedes (front) bar in the rear. It's kinda fun walking around Pick-a-Part with a tape measure looking for roll bars. And they're CHEAP! I have plenty of extras, too, if I want to change the handling to match a different set of tires.

For the Mustang bar, I drilled a hole in each lower spring plate and used a standard threaded shaft with polyurathane (sp) grommets from a speed shop. I mounted the front brackets under the nose on the cross beam. Works great!

Paul
