weber help
i have put 60 idle jets in my 44mm idf's
it has fixed my 2000 flat spot but its idle is now low,do i need to adjust idle mixture or air bypass? |
You need to adjust the idle on the carbs...no need to change any of the other stuff...you need to resync the carbs. Each carb should have a screw that you can turn in that rests on the body of the carb and this in effect controls your idle speed.

how does changing idle jets effect the sync of carbs?
does it mean the jets are too big when,i am cruising anywhere from 1500 to 2500 and the car is surging? |
Give Enzo at Finish Line a call. He is without one of the leading experts on Webers in the country.

thanks for the advice but i am in australia :MECOOL:

347, mmhhhh .... no phone in Australia .... I'm just joking !!!
Let me know me your e-mail address. I will then send you some helpful information I copied out of "Haynes Techbook Weber carburator manual". An excellent book that you should have. I orderd mine at "Amazon" (ISBN 1 56392 157 X). Walter walter@wrothe.ch |

If you change the idle jets you are sucking more fuel or less fuel depending on if you went up or down.
I always resync the carbs because there is the potential that you changed it....more than likely no but it could have changed it. Matt |
It is worth the cost of a phone call. I spent an hour on the phone with Enzo. It was the most informative one hour I have had regarding the webers. You could also contact Roger at pierce manifolds. They have a web site as well.
My webers were about to make a beautiful boat anchor when Enzo and Cal Metal came to the rescue. At least e mail them |
Just a quick note (a sad note in my opinion) - Roger has left Pierce. No forwarding address. Still good response from Pierce though.

Before you changed to the 60 idles, what were you using?
|
50's...................what are your thoughts ....master
|
No master of the IDFs, that's for sure.
How about this. Disconnect the linkage to the carbs and adjust each barrel for optimal idle, using the idle/mixture control. When they are optimally set (highest rpm), reconnect the linkage and use the idle set screw (should be just one) to adjust idle speed to the desired level. That adjuster should increase the opening on all the carbs simultaneously. I know the IDF has an air control adjuster which is used to balance out the barrels of each carb. This is more of a fine tuning issue which you might want to pursue. Try the former first, though, and see what you get. |
does it mean the idle jets are too big if,when i am driving at about 2000rpm the engine surges?
i screwed in the idle mixture screws half a turn on one carb (with 60 idles)and the idle stayed the same i turned off the engine and screwed the other three sets of idle mixture screws in half a turn and started it again and the idle was up about 200rpm........should this make it clear to me that they are to big? |
