ERA finish questions (Body & Paint)
Hello peoples!
The more time I sit & wait the more questions I come up with.
I was wondering how you guys finish the underside of your hood & trunklids. I know it comes unfinished(fibreglass texture). Is it standard to sand it out to make it look like painted metal or is there something you adhere to these sections to cover it? Pictures?
Thanks

I had mine sanded and painted silver as if it was aluminum. The car was dark blue outside.

Right now the underside of my hood is just going to be painted the same color as the body. However, I was thinking about putting the same aluminum underneath it that CobEra did but had one thought/reservation.
Do you think the engine compartment will retain more heat with the aluminun undercoating on it?

I lined the underside of the trunk and hood with aluminum. It took a little time but I think it was worth it.
There's a couple of photos in my gallery.

I was thinking of sanding it out as Turk mentioned but didn't know if there was a better way. I too like the aluminum finish but I'm not going that "All Out" ith my car. Just want it to look like a vintage racer.:)

The underside of my hood is sanded out and painted to match the rest of the car. I didn't see any reason to do anything differently and that was included in the overall price of the paint job when I had the car painted by Connecticut Customs. The underside of the trunk deck also gets painted by Conn Customs as part of the standard price but if you want the center portion finished to a nice smooth finish, it costs an extra couple hundred bucks. I paid to have that done but in hindsight, I probably wouldn't pay for it next time. ERA provides a section of carpet like material to cover it which would have been fine. It just doesn't show that much. Of course, my car is a very dark blue and the carpet kit is black. If I had a light car, the dark carpet on the underside of the trunk might be a bit more obvious.
