stock rockers

I will be assembling the stock rockers on my h.o. motor and need to know what the torque spec needs to be?

Thanks!
Ed

Ed

According to "Steve Christ" in his book on FE engines, he says
"Thread the bolts in until they all meet resistance from the valve springs. Make sure all the push rods line up and are seated in their sockets or adjusting screws. Start at one end of the shaft and turn each bolt two turns. Continue to the next bolt until the bolts are torqued 40-45 ft-lb. "

Hope this helps

Paul

Sorry Ed. I just looked a little closer to your profile and noticed that you were referring to a 5.0 not an FE.

I have a book on the 351W somewhere. If no one else post an answer, I will look for it.

What kind of rockers are you using?

I seem to recall that on my small block my rockers were torqued to about 25-30 pounds. I used the Crane 1.7 ratio roller rockers that I really loved. Picked up an additional 20 horsepower with those Crane Roller Rockers - - Cost was about $200.00. Also, I don't seem to recall any adjustment with these rockers just make sure your push rods are setting correctly on your lifters and correctly positioned in your rocker arms and bolt them down.

Someone else needs to jump in here now and confirm or correct me.

Spin the pushrod back and forth with one hand, slowly tighten the rocker nut with the other. When the pushrod stops turning (briefly), you are at ZERO LASH. If you have a hydraulic cam, give the nut another 1/2 turn. This is if you have rocker arm studs with nuts on them, like all high perf heads should from the factory. If you have the non-adjustable type, disreguard what I just posted.
