Any install tips for weatherstrip?
Hi guys
Car back from paint shop yesterday Ordered and received the stripping from Enzo (40 ft) Says to use the 3M black adhesive. My paint shop said to let the paint cure a bit before install and to puch it on from the inside of corners outwards not from end to end. Any tips from experience on the threads u may like to pass on? I used the same weatherstrip. Had to take it all back off and rough up the back side with sandpaper to get it to stick well. Ran a small bead of adhesive on the strip about 2 feet at a time. Putting the strip on the movable panel as opposed to the body makes it less visible and keeps it out of harms way i.e. people getting in and out etc. I put mine on the doors and on the body for the hood and trunk opening.

I have a question for u I assumed u used the adhesive thats recommended. Does it get tacky fast enough? IE can u apply the strip and know it will stay in place or does it want to lift away and reform to what ever shape its was coiled in on its own? I know that Bob Putnam said theres convention to which went where and I think all openings are left bare while the stripping goes on the doors and hood/trunk Tim |

The adhesive stays pretty soft for a minute or two. It really helps to have someone (or something) to hold the strip in place as you proceed. Make sure you keep the strip down once you glue it. The adhesive will go stringy if you try to lift if. Be careful with the adhesive - don't use too much as it is a real b!tch to clean off. I had to use enamel reducers to clean it. Fortunately it didn't affect the clear coat. Good luck! |
