My dash is hard wired directly to the fuse box, with no plugs and no slack in the wiring. I'm looking into redoing my dash and at the same time re-wiring it so I can pre-wire out of the car and then plug the assembly in. Any suggestions for suppliers of a "short" loom that would only accomodate the dash?

Thanks,
J

Take a look at Ron Francis Wireworks, and Painless Wiring for harnesses and electrical components.

You can make your own dash harness, or complete harness assemblies. Strip, crimp, solder, grease, and shrink wrap is tedious detail work, but payback is a trouble free electrical system. A trick I use is to draw a schematic first, then follow the schematic during assembly.

Test each circuit individually as you proceed.

And, if you honk the horn, and the headlights come on, go back to your schematic. Even pros make mistakes.

One tip I'll share is don't trust your frame to be your primary ground. If you wire all your grounds to a common point such as a bussbar, then wire the bussbar to the battery ground, your grounds will be consistent, and reliable. Ground the frame for redundancy. Put an extra nut on the starter mounting bolt, and ground the starter/engine directly to the battery ground.

Jack..Running the Motec i don't think it should be done by anyone except an auth. motec installer but the rest of the car i think i'll do myself so all the suggestions i'm taking on board thanks for the input,,

Trularin.
Thanks for the offer of the drawings but i think i'll go with a newer style of electricals ...to cope with with Motec and the like..!!

Andy.. i'll talk to you about the loom for the majority of the car.....it's so cold and wet out there i believe your the man to speak too and you are after all a landscape gardener ...i'm sure you'll have some wonderful ways to present them!!!!!
