How to Apply Team Stripe Racer Tape?
OK, got the racer tape for two team stripes across the front driver's side fender. need to be a couple inches apart and parallel.
team stripes from here SURELY there's a method to do this that's tried and true and won't have them looking crooked or non-parallel. Can y'all help? THIS is the weekend's task (that and finally Zaino-ing the beast). |
Just take your time. Should take you all of 15 minutes.

Wow! Chrome!!! Do it in a shaded area...would hate to hear that you had to make visit the emergency room this weekend due to retina burns. ;)

No, no, no, it's dark metallic red on my titanium and black striped SPF. I was just sending the site so you could see what kind of tape it is. (though the chrome is kinda sexy..).
Anyway, the cattle and women are getting excited as I've never done this before and could never crayon inside the lines. Any concrete advice before this gets too....errr....artistic? |
Doug,
I tried using those stripes for the main body striipes. They were black 6" wide and it was a terrible ordeal. I could not them perfectly straight and I could not take them off, they PULLED OFF THE PAINT! I recommend that you take the car to a professional painter and do it right. Use the tape to wrap wires or something. If you are determined to try this and risk your paint job: Use masking tape as a guide. If you want 1/2" gap between the two stripes, use 1/2" masking tape to set the angle. Use lots of soapy water to wet the car while you apply the tape to either side of the masking tape. Keep a wet sponge going to keep the tape from sticking until it is aligned with the masking tape perfectly. If the tape will not conform to the curves of the car correctly, use a hairdrier to heat it up. Do not use a plastic squeege on the tape! It scratches very easily, esp. the darker colors. Just work the bubbles out with your hand. If there are bubbles left after it all dries, use an X-acto knife to make a small slit at the edge of the bubble and force the air out. My $50 tape kit cost me $3,100 for a new paint job. GOOD LUCK! Paul |
I have the same 5.00 roll of orange racer tape I bought 3 years ago. I retape every year. If you want to make it less sticky then just apply it to your living room carpet a few times and then apply to the car.
23.00-35.00 for two stripes? Not for me. http://www.priveye.com/dls/meatball2.jpg Roscoe |
