flywheel inspection cover help
My 351C is mated to a Tremec 6 speed. It seems that in South Africa someone 'lifted' or it never had the cover plate installs which covers the lower part of the flywheel. Where does one turn to purchase such an inspection cover, size of nuts etc. as I live in Switz. this will surely be impossible in Europe.

I had one made out of stainless. It never cost much and as for the bolts I just tried a few until I found which ones fit and were the correct length and that was that. Ron :) |
The cover is determined by your bellhousing, not your tranny.

I got my 351C rear cover off ebay ( www.ebay.com ). It ran something like $20.00.
I got my bolts from www.fastenal.com. They are grade 8 and work great. If you are asking about the three bottom bolts, in the US, they are 1/4 x 20 x 1/2 ( use 3/4" and a washer ) Hope this helps. |
Could I be confusing something called the "engine blocking plate" with this cover. What exactly do you call this cover- "Fly wheel inspection cover? I am totally confused having spoken to Rockland Standard Gears today (where I got the T56 who told me that the piece is part of the motor) and then called Forte's Parts in Burlington, MA and was told that the part is very important as it acts to "locate" the starter motor so it does not rely on 2 bolts. I could have misunderstood Mike at Forte's who was very helpful and will email me photos. I will try to see if I can get a photo of exactly what seems to be the problem. It seems that in order to fit the engine blocking plate you need to split engine from tranny and the stinking little piece is only a $50 item.

I am not familiar with the T56 off the top of my head, but all manual trannys have: and engine plate that goes between the back of the engine and the flywheel, the bellhousing, and some have a cover on the bottom that reveals the bottom third of the flywheel's teeth. You will need to remove the tranny, clutch, disk and flywheel to install a motor plate.

I can only hope this is the plate which covers the bottom third and has nothing to do with engine plate.
