SPF Owners/Builders w/351W+

I'm putting the finishing touches on my SPF #1649. I'm to the point where I'm connecting water hoses, and am working on the hose that connects the upper port of the water pump (5/8" hose fitting) to the port on the neck of the "header" or "puke tank" (looks like 3/4" hose fitting). The port sizes are different. The angles are a bear!

The water pump I was sent as part of the install kit is a Carter with fixed hose connections. The hose they sent as part of the install kit is 3/4" on each end, and looks like crap when mounted.

What are you guys using for a solution to this? Please post pictures if possible.

Thanks!

Ray

Ray,

I'm currently doing a new SPF with a 427 small block stroker. I don't have the engine yet but last year I built a SPF with a 514 and had a simuliar problem. I basically took the hose they supplied and went to a local auto parts store and bought one that had the simular bends but smaller opening on that end. Ford dealers have lots of hoses also.......

Gary, out of curiosity, why are you doing a SB stroker this time after doing the BB previously?

SPF1649

Hi Ray:

I am curious about your SPF1649 since I just took delivery of mine which is actually SPF1649 as well.

Could you have made a mistake on the number? I will contact the folks at Dynamic Motorsports in Ross, Ohio and try to get at the bottom of this issue. If you could verify your number and e-mail me would be great. I am quite sure there is an explanation for this mix up. Attached is a pix of my car.

SPF 1649

Hi Ray:

I talked to Dynamic Motorsports this morning with Dean Rosen and he told me that your car number is SPF 1679 and not SPF 1649. You may want to double check your papers for future reference so that your car is registered properly in SPF registry.

The solution to my water hose issue (the real reason for this thread) was to replace the Carter water pump that came with the install kit with an Edelbrock Victor series water pump. The Vic has threaded water ports for the heater and bypass hoses. I used a 90 degree fitting for the bypass, and got a water hose from my local parts house that had the tightest "U" I could find. The hose I found is even 5/8" at one end and 3/4" at the other. The result is excellent!

Hey Gary.
How long have you had your 427 small block? Did you get it from the engine builder in California (whose name I don't recall) and did it come with a warranty? Any concerns? Where did yo go for enough info to get comfortable with it?

Hi Paul! I haven't ordered my car yet,but have done tons of research.Pretty much settled on Superformance, but waiting for the offer I can't refuse(hey, I'm a 'Dago, what can I say?)Dynamic Motorsports has had some of there clients who have installed the 427w from Coast Highperformance and love them(Reno,Nevada dealer)Yes,they do come with a 30 mo.,50k warranty included with their turnkey "Cobra Classic" engine package. They have engineered their stroker kits to overcome all the foibles of most other designs, with specially designed pistons to eliminate oil blowby, and offset wrist pin holes to eliminate cylinder scuffing.Check out the website,at www.coasthigh.com,or give them a call(my contact was Tim)They are extremely nice to talk to.Hope this helps!Anyway, this is where I am at this point.Maybe I'll get my car ordered at Hot August Nights next month.
