Smith's fuel gauge sender
Hoping someone can help me find the right fuel tank sending unit for my Smith's fuel gauge. I have a set of the "original style" Smith's guages that I purchased on the forum and I need the "right" sending unit for it.
I will need a top mount sending unit for a tank 7.5" deep. What is the ohm range of the Smith's guage? Will only a Smith's sender work or will some other manufacturer's sender work? What would the Smith's part number be/or other manufacturer? Does anyone know of a dealer who has one? Hope someone can help. Thanks Greg |
Greg,
I beleive I have a (gasp) chevrolet sender with mine, and that requires a resistor at the gauge to match. are your gauges original or the more recent remakes (still Smiths) of the last few years. Your best bet is to call Nisonger autmotive , they will help you out. KK |
Thanks KK. I did contact Nisonger : Smith's senders are significantly back ordered and they would rather sell me a new gauge with a matching sender (probably due to the new / old version matching problem). I'll probably have to do the resistor matching like you did,

The Smiths fuel gauge uses a 15 ohm to 300 ohm range

Thanks Mike. This is absolutely the best place for answers.
