Tps Adjusted Now What

I HAVE A 302 INJECTED 70MM THROTLE BODY COBRA UPPER AND LOWER INTAKE, FULL MSD DIGITAL 6 PLUS IGNITION, RUNNING 6 PONDS OF BOOST WITH A NEW PROCHARGER NON INTERCOOLED SELF CONTAINED UNIT (MEANING NO OIL LINE TO THE OIL PAN). MY THROTLE RESPONSE REALLY SUCKS RIGHT NOW. WONDERING WHAT IT COULD BE AND HOW MANY THINGS IT COULD BE. I ALSO NOTICED JUST YESTERDAY WHILE LOOKING AROUND UNDER THE HOOD THAT I HAD OIL IN THE LINE THAT GOES FROM MY UPPER INTAKE TO MY BOOST GAUGE. THE CAR ALSO RUNS LIKE IT HAS A BIG ASS CAM IN IT SOME TIMES, MAINLY WHEN I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH. WHEN THIS HAPPENS I CAN SEE MY VOLTS GO UP AND DOWN AS WELL AS MY BOOST GAUGE. THIS HAPPENS NORMALLY AT IDLE

ANY INPUT FROM ANYONE WOULD HELP,
BIGBOOTHE

Hi,
I would check the initial timing and set it to 10 degrees with the black clip out to time engine.Regap spark plugs to 35 thou.
I would richen up the injectors now that you've adjusted the tps.
You'll need a fuel gauge installed on the schrader valve [front passenger side fuel rail] Also an adjustable fuel pressure regulator inplace of the stock one[rear of fuel rail] The stock fuel pressure should be 30 lbs at idle with the vacuum on, but take the vacuum off and plug it untill you've adjusted the pressure from 39 [stock] to 43 psi. Reattatch the vacuum line. Now to reset the EEC IV computer, disconnect the negative battery for a few minutes and reinstall. Take the car out and leave in 2nd gear and do 3 or 4 2,000 to 4,000 wide open throttle runs without killing yourself. This should seat the new settings in the computor as the EEC IV learns as you drive.

Hi,
I just realized that your msd has a retard function. This is probably the main cause of your troubles. I would check timing at idle with the black clip out, should be 10 degrees before TDC. Plug the clip in and it should advance to about 22 BTDC. If not then msd is retarding the timing at idle and screwing up the EEC IV. The retard should only come in under boost.

I'm takeing notes on this thread! This is some good stuff!

Definitely check the timing, as Perry has noted above if your ignition box is retarding your timing it will kill torque. Next check for vacuum leaks, and make sure the EGR valve is not sticking. The oil in the boost pressure gauge line sounds like you may have a problem with your PCV valve. Try replacing the PCV valve. Blown motors can build a lot of crank case pressure that can overwhelm the stock PCV system so you may need to investigate improving the crank case vent system.

I recently installed a Pro-M MAS and matched 42lb injectors and I had a bad stumble off idle that was due to air fuel ratio, I tried bumping the fuel pressure but the EECIV will re-learn and correct the fuel mixture up to 20% from the nominal value basically taking out what you just put in.

The way I corrected my driveability issues was to have the car dyno tuned and a custom chip burned. The difference is night and day. So, even if you spent the $$ and bought high quality items that are "matched" you may still have a lean condition. Be careful leaning hard on the motor until you get it figured out, you don't want to burn a valve or worse.

Hi,
The adjustments I suggested are for stock or lightly modified motors running less than 8 lbs boost. If you run more than the 19 or 24 lb injectors or big heads/cams etc. you will need a custom chip done as Mike has.

Hi,
Your MSD digital 6 has a 20 degree ignition retard upon start. I would track down that wire and make sure it goes to the start position, not the ignition and not a 12 volt position position.
are we havin' fun yet?
Perry.

RETARD AND 2 STAGE REV LIMIT ARE MAINLY FOR NOS ONLY. BLUE WIRE IS FOR SECOND STAGE REV LIMIT, PINK WIRE IS FOR THE RETARD STAGE. BOTH ARE ACTIVATED WHEN 12 VOLTS IS APPLIED. MOST PEOPLE CONECT BOTH OF THESE WIRES TO THERE NOS SWITCH SO WHEN THEY HIT THE NOS THE RETARD KICKS IN AS WELL AS THE SECOND STAGE REV LIMIT. RIGHT NOW ALL I HAVE HOOKED UP IS THE FIRST STAGE REV LIMITER SET FOR 5,500 RPM. BOTHE PINK AND BLUE WIRE ARE DISCONNECTED. i'M CHECKING ON THE START RETARD.

already have fuel gauge installed along with boost gauge(did them when I installed the blower) I'm going out to get an adjustable fuel presure regulator that goes from 30 to 100 today.
