Jag IRS Question?

Can I use the rear end from a Jag S-Type 3.8 without modifications (narrowing to width of an E-Type)?

Thanks,

Hi Wahoo,

You can use any width rear end that you want, but you might end up with some funny looking offset for the wheels, or some really big fender flairs......:).

Norrowing the Jag is not a big deal. Do a search on Concourse West, they have everything that you need for the Jag as well as lots of info on what works best.

Good luck!
Jon

P.S. I saw your other post about the front end and I've got a friend with a complete E-type front end for sale. Send me an email if you want and I'll give you his phone number.

I know it's not an E-type, but check out ERA's web site which shows the process they go through to prepare the Jag XJ6 rear suspension for installation into their Cobras. Basically, they shorten the lower control arm and driveshafts which also act as the upper control arms to get the original Cobra flange-to-flange dimension.

And by the way, I just acquired an XJ6 rear suspension setup bolted in the cradle with brakes, center section and suspension with shocks and springs intact. I'd be willing to part with it at a very reasonable price. Got it to have a spare just in case.

Here's the section on Jag modifications in ERA's web site:

If you are talking about a 3.8S Sedan: The rear will work. The biggest problem as I recall, is that it uses some fairly rare (at least on this side of the pond) brake calipers.

The XJS may or may not be different, depending on the year. I don't know enough about the changes to give details.
