What Rate Front Springs
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT RATE FRONT SPRINGS DO YOU RUN ON YOUR COBRA???? WHAT IS THE WEIGHT OF THE FRONT END OF YOUR CAR? HOW DID YOU DETERMIN WHAT YOU NEEDED? MY CAR WEIGHTS 2400 LBS WITH 1160 ON THE FRONT WHEELS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD I NEED 450 LB SPRINGS AND ANOTHER SAID 250. AND A CHART SHOWS 125LBS PER IN. FOR A CAR WITH 1150 TO 1250 LB ON THE FRONT END. I WANT TO CHANGE TO COILOVERS. ANY HELP OUT THERE? |
Your answer depends a lot on what design front suspension your car has. My car weighs about 1350 on the front, has MII frontend with tubular arms, Carrera Coilovers, and I am using 375# springs. Was using a 250# and it was too soft. It rides and handles very well, but I think it could be a hair stiffer. Only problem is Carrera jumps from 375# to 500# and I think that would be too stiff. I asked the Carrera tech man for recommendations. Ask your shock mfg. It is their business to get you real close. I always believe in soft springs and BIG swaybars (Both ends) Balance is the keyword.

THANKS DAVID
I HAVE A TUBULAR UPPER & LOWER MUSTANG II FRONT END. MY FRIEND MIKE HAS A FFR THAT WEIGHTS THE SAME AND HAS THE SAME FRONT END. HE HAS 450 LB COILOVERS. AND HIS RIDES GREAT! MY CAR IS A SPRING AND SHOCK SETUP. I GOT TO CHANGE! RIDES TO STIFF. NO SPRING ACTION. DO YOU THINK THE 450 LB COILOVERS WOULD BE THE BEST CHOICE? |
450# should work well. Does your car have sway bars? I know some folks don't think they are necessary. Out of curiosity, what springs in the rear?

NO SWAY BARS. I THINK THE REARS ARE 175 LBS SPRINGS.
