Sputtering 460???

I've got a 460/535 crate and the thing is starting to "miss" on me... I have a serious stutter when running at a constant speed around 3k RPM. Sometimes when I get on it I get a big stumble, sputter and general huge slack off on power, usually ending with a nice pop out the left side when I let off.

Any ideas to what this could be??? I'm suspect of the #8 ignition wire but would be interested in anyone elses thoughts on this.

Thanks anyone!

If the stutter is only around certain RPM ranges I would go with ignition/wires/plugs. If constant you may want to check valve adjustment as you might have something coming loose there. Any noise associated with it?
You could always just swap that wire with one from the other side and see if the pop moves with it. The pop is probably raw fuel detonating in the pipes.

I replaced my #8 wire and the engine was running better. So, in Cobra owner fashion I installed a whole new set of Taylor 409's. I'm going to a chassis dyno tuner in a month to get a mich closer look. FYI for anyone reading this later.

Is it possible that you have accumulated some moisture in the fuel. Is the gas fresh?? Also check the distributor cap inside.

Just a thought

Rick
