Someone Please Help!
Hello. I am an 18 year old high school graduate who has just started attending Universal Technical Institute. I am also in th United States Army Reserves, and I have a very mind-boggling question. I own a 1965 Shelby GT350 and a 1965 Mustang Fastback. I am hoping to get into a vintage road race curcuit where I could race my fastback. I have about ten questions I need answered and I would appreciate any serious replys. So here goes-
1.) Is anyone aware of any companies that would be willing to sponsor me in my quest to be the next best race car driver? 2.) My Mustang came from the factory with a "c" code 289 4 barrel, meaning it does not have a 9" rearend. Should I buy an aftermarket rearend, and if so, from what company? 3.) Should I upgrade my four-speed to a five speed trans for road racing? 4.) Which is better for road racing, fuel injection or carburetion? 5.) What is the widest low-profile, high performance race tire that will fit a 16x8 Torque Thrust D? 6.) What would be a good muffler to use for road racing as far as performance goes? Will the Flowmaster American Thunder system be too loud? 7.) What is the maximum bore and stroke on a stock 351W block? Is it safe to bore/stroke to 408ci? 8.) What is the best intake to use on a 408? The 408 will make it's power in the 1800-6500 rpm range. 9.) What is the best came to use in a 408? 10.) 4V or 8V carburetion? |
If the cars are stock and not hacked up, leave them alone and build a race car.

I'd leve the Shelby alone for sure, restore it to original specs is the way to go there!
The 65 Stang? Heck, knock yourself out and make it a racer! Get the RULE BOOK first and that will answer a LOT of your questions right there! Ernie |
