Resistor size for deleting solenoids
I am installing a 93 5.0 and want to delete the various solenoids that have no use in this application.
The problem is that when disconected they will throw a code and make diognostic routines invalid. I understand that resistors can be installed but I dont know what ohm rating to install. HELP  |
If you have access to the original solenoids and an ohm meter, you can measure and should be able to substitute accordingly since they are DC activated. I would also think that + or - 5% would also be acceptable. This is more of an educated guess though but should get you close enough. Good luck!

P.S. Once you get the Ohm reading, divide that into twelve. This will give you amps. Multiply amps times 12 and you will get Watts. Make sure the watt rating on the resistor exceeds this number.
eg Ohm reading is 72. 12/72 = .16666 .16666 * 12 = 1.999 (2) In this case you would want at a minimum of a 2 watt rated resistor. But to be on the safe side I would double the 2 watts to 4. Watt ratings on resistors relates to how well they can disapate heat. |
Hmmmm,,,,,and what function did these solenoids originally have?

The purge valve and the thermactor dump valves

You can replace the TAD, TAB, EGR, and Cannister purge solenoids with 10K ohm, 1/2 watt resistors.

Thank you
