royal purple
Do any of you guys use royal purple oil?
Do you notice any difference? |
I use Mobil1 synthetic. When I replaced the 20W-50 builder fill with 5W-30 Mobil1 my oil pressure went up! I figure the thinner oil went through all the plumbing of the cooler and hoses more easily than the Parrifin oil did.
The thinner oil also means it pumps more easily and put less stress on the oil pump gears. At 2000 RPM I have 55 PSI with a crate 351W. Bob |
Which Royal Purple? They make a complete line you know. Generally the racing R.P.'s do make for a bit more power, but I wonder out loud if they really arn't designed for engines that see rebuilds after a race, not streetcars. Right now, considering costs,availability,and other factors it's tough to look past Mobil 1 for streetcars and mild racecar builds in my opinion. Just a opinion though.

Bob;
I switched to Mobil 1 5/30 a while back from Rotella 15/40,actually lost 10 psi once the motor and oil are fully warmed up,when hot (190/200) after running 10 laps of open track I come in with 20 psi of oil pressure when I used to never have less than 30 at idle and 55 at speed.... I still think the Mobil 1 is a better oil,just do not like losing 10 psi across the board with it....Running a 350 hp 351-W....with a stock pressure and volume Melling oil pump... David |

Mobil1 also comes in 0W-40 and 15w-50. Bob |
I have been using Royal Purple 20w/50w for two years now, I am having no problems, I change it once a year and my pressure runs 53psi at start up when its cold after hard running it drops to 45psi, my eng seems to run about 10deg cooler also.
I started using it after my eng break in about 3k miles I have 8K on it now. Allot of your Marine guys use it, call your local boat dealer and see what they have to say about it. Bob |
