Bellhousing for 302 with Toploader
Ok small block tech experts....
What bellhousing will mate a '73 302 block (6 bolt bellhousing) to a (28 spline close ratio) toploader? Can a later model bellhousing from a T5 bolt up? Are the trans bolt patterns the same, and input shafts the same length? And finally...are all the 289/302 pilot bearings the same size? |
Any early passeneger car bellhousing that is a 6 bolt will work. There are 157 and 164 tooth flywheels so be sure and get the correct bellhousing for you flywheel. The T-5 bellhousings will not work because they are deeper. The pilot bearings are the same size.

Scott,
Call your local bone yard. Tell them you need a bellhousing for a 1971 mustang with a 302 and a 4 spd. That should get you what you are looking for. there are a bizillion of them out there. Steven :) |

For example is this bellhousing made for the 157 or 164 tooth flywheel? http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/00/b6/93/52_1.JPG |
The cast iron ones are 164 tooth. The aluminumones are 157 if the casting number is on the lower driver side flange and 164 if the casting number is on the starter cone.
