Original Gas tank?
This question is not for everybody but I would like to know if anyone has the demensions of the original gas tank for the 289? With the body so close to the ground and with the spare tire in the trunk-how did they fit the gas tank in there? Next is where did they mount the fuel pumps?-inside the trunk well or outside in between the frame rails? I have tried a search and have flipped through all my books but it seems all that they show is the spare tire and no tank-- so I am wondering what shape? the tank was. Thanks for all the help. Rich

The 289 street tank was mounted right behind the driver under the rear cowl area. If you were to look into the trunk--look up above the spare tire tray and you will see an aluminum interior panel. Behind that panel, (and under the rear cowl), is the gas tank.
The FIA cars used the same tank, along with an extra tank which mounted right behind the 1st tank. That tank is clearly visible on FIA cars.
David:) :) :)
