Brake light switch trouble
I've got a hydraulic-actuated brake light switch on my Unique. The front brake master cylinder feeds a tee, which has a switch that screws down into the top of the tee. The reservoir is full and when I pulled the switch, fluid flowed out of the top of the tee. I feel reasonably certain that it's not the switch. I replaced it recently (the fluid level was low and there was insufficient pressure to activate the switch). I jumped out the circuit at the switch and the lights work fine. I put an ohm meter on the switch, it's not activating as I push the brake pedal. Anyone had a similar problem? The only thing I know to do is to bleed the front brakes, but they seem to work fine.

The switch is bad, has an inncorrect range, or there's some blockage to the switch. I don't care how much air you've got in the system. If you've got pressure at the calipers, you've got the same pressure at the switch. Basic hydraulics.
We've had problems with certain switches too. See here for a switch that fits into a 1/8" F pipe thread. |
Many thanks for the info. I tested the switch I replaced earlier (I didn't throw it away) by putting an ohm meter across the leads and shoving a small screw driver into the port. I can feel the internal mechanism sliding and making contact, but I can't get continuity between the posts. I pulled the replacement switch from the car and performed the same test. Same results, no continuity. It would indicate I've got two bad switches. I will definitely seek the model you listed.
