Powermaster Alternator wiring

I have a powermaster "one wire" alternator installed when I first connected it the car charged & ran fine then I had to remove the alternator and I can not remember where the black wire goes%/

On the back of the alt. there is a red wire, this is where the hot from the battery goes I know I have that right but there is a green wire that says ground and also a black that seems to ground the external regulator. Where does my black wire go to the black or the green? I had it connected to the black and it was not charging. Either I have a bad alternator or I had it wired wrong. The directions only explain the hot wire it does not say anything about the black wire.
BTW I have a msd ignition

Mike:
Check out this ERA Alternator Wiring Diagram from the ERA website:

www.erareplicas.com/427man/wiring/alt.htm

also try this link as well...

Hopefully this can help. ALso, check the Manual Supplement, (Wiring Your ERA 427SC).

I am not personnally familiar with the PowerMaster alternator.

However, the alternator should be grounded thru the Black Wire as well as thru the case thru the bracket to the engine block.

So make sure to try a continuity test of the alternator case and the block. Sometimes a heavily painted alternator bracket can insulate this needed ground.

Hope these pointer help amigo!

Your alternator only needs the red wire (1 wire Hot) to be connected back to the battery. This alternator has an internal regulator and you do not need the other wires. It is grounded through the bracket attached to the block. The other wires you speak of --green and black I assume are in the ERA wiring harness which most likely are a ground (black) and possibly a warning light on the dash. Again you should only need the one hot battery lead with this alternator.........
