Distributor
Does anyone have any thoughts on CraneCams XR-1 points conversion kit, for use in a standard sb 289-302 . It is a mild build with stock distributor.
I saw a tech write up in one of the magazines and looked up the info on the Crane site. |
I've never used the Crane unit, but I have had good luck with Pertronix electronic conversion. I am using it on two of my other cars, one has MSD box. On my Cobra, I am using a Ford Duraspark pickup in the distributor triggering an MSD 6AL. So far so good.

I also have a Pertronix Ignitor II unit in my Cobra along with their Flametrower II. It installed in a minute and works great.
(Note: If you do use the 45,000 volt Flamethrower II coil, you will have to run a separate wire from the ignition switch to the positive side of the coil to bypass any ballast resistor wires. The coil needs a full 12 volts) |
Try UniLite
I did the UniLite from Mallory and was very impressed.
Looks stock, runs well and is reliable. You may want to give them a glance. Just a thought. :3DSMILE: |
