Brake line question

I need help with a brake line question. I am going to be installing brake lines this weekend. I know I need to make double flares on my steel lines, but how far back should I make the first flare?
Any one who has done this I would appreciate your help.
Thanks, Jer

The tool inserts give the depth. The thickness of the cap of the "mushroom" that you insert into the line for the bubble, is how much tubing should be sticking out of the clamp.

The little black inserts in various sizes that have a cross section like a T the thickness of the horizontal part of the T is the measurement. Hope this was more informative than confusing.

practice a few on a piece of scrap before trying it on the real brake line, how much force you use while flaring is important.

Use a fine tooth file to remove the sharp edge around the perimeter of the tube prior to the first flare, also debur the inside before you begin forming the first flare. Practice on a piece of similar tubing material before you start on the actual pieces you will be using. A little lube is ok too.... Good luck

And don't forget to put the threaded ferrule on the line BEFORE you flare it! Nothing sucks worse than making a perfect flare, then having to cut it back off to install the nut. :3DSMILE:
