Wheel Spinner Locking Device
Not too long ago, on ebay there was a Contemporary Cobra that was for sale (it was removed from sale only after about 2 days). What I noticed in the many detailed pictures of this car was the following...
A thick wire ring, which fit outboard of the spinner lug, inside of one of the threaded groves. The ends of the wire ring were then turned back and safety wired together. So the effect was that this gizmo, acted as a thread jamming device for the spinner. BTW, the spinner was also saftey wired as is typically done. I have not seen this kind of thread jamming device used before. I have a copy of the picture at home and will upload it to this post later this evening. Can someone tell me about this device? here is the picture of the hub. At the bottom of the round center hub (look closely it appears to be made from brass or coathanger) is the ears of the wire device and the saftey wire that holds it. I am NOT talking about the normal safety wire on the spinner. Just click on this url below to see it. (too big to upload). http://members.aol.com/necobraclub/spinnerlatch.jpg |

Your picture appears to be cut off (top area is not visable) however Halibrand had illustrated in a small handout flyer for their wheels a clip that was similar to a "safety pin" (remember cloth diapers) that passed through the threaded hub on the outside of the spinner. It was to prevent the spinner from totally unscrewing. These clips can be found at Farm Supply stores in various sizes and wire diameters. They are often used to prevent clevis pins and shafts from falling out of their respective holes or operating locations. Rick |
Hi Rick:
Well, the cut off part of the picture was done by the original photographer. I just cropped the part that was of interest even though it does not show the entire gizmo. thanks for the input. |

These are the ones I got from Halibrand.

John:
Thanks for that nice picture of those pins. They must be what is on the car and then the ends are wired so as not to pull out. |
