351W question

Has anyone ever replaced the rubber hose from the thermostat housing to the water pump with stainless tubing(not braided hose). I have a CSI waterneck housing and an Edelbrock water pump. The CSI unit has the bypass fitting that threads in. I am getting rid of all the rubber hose in the engine compartment and going stainless. I don't think I can use AN fittings with braided hose for that connection, just does not seem to be enough room or length. I am using blue/red AN fittings most places.
Any help would be appreciated.
Jim

Yes, that is a short little piece. Why dont you try using stainless hose without the fittings. Just secure it with a hose clamp. Or.. you could just do away with that hose altogether and plug the hole.

hose question

You could try using the stainless hose with hose clamps. As for doing away with the hose and plugging the hole, I'm not sure. That hose is a bypass hose that allows water to circulate while the thermostat is closed. I believe you have to keep it or the water being pumped by the pump will have no where to go.

Tony,

I know of some people who have plugged the bypass and drilled holes in the flange around the thermostat to let some water through until it warms up enough for it to open. Thay have never had a problem and we have some hot weather here. There is an earlier thread abut this and I think one of the people from ERA even posted a diagram of how and what size to make the holes.

Ron :)
