418 Performance Engineering Stroker - Questions
Dan, Lowell and other P. Engineering 418 stroker owners,
I have read some of your comments on the above mentioned subject and have some questions: Tranny: I am thinking of upgrading to a TKO so I can cruise on the highway with less RPM's vs. a TKOII. Is this a correct assumption? Is 92 pump gas sufficient? If I can get 93 or 94 octane I would obviuosly use it. Any issues with carb loading up at slow speeds or idle.? What I am tyring to say is will it only run wide open or is it an all around performer..track to city.etc. Can you shed any light on the resale of P.E. 418 engine vs. a Roush 408 stroker. I do like Roush's 2 year warranty - added peice of mind. Merry Christmas to all! |
Rick,
Did you receive my email reply? TKO and 3550 have the same 5th gear ratio, I believe. The TKO is rated for more torque than the 3550 and the TKO 2 is similar to the TKO but with a lower 5th gear (TKO .68, TKO 2 .82 or thereabouts). Even with a car this light, I'd want the extra strength of the TKO series with a motor like this. I can get 93 octane gas here in northern IL, so that's what I use. On a trip to New Mexico in May, I was only able to get 90 octane or maybe even 89 octane in some parts of the southwest. Apparently, with the thinner air, the engine is less susceptible to preignition, so octane requirements are lower. I didn't experience any problems with knocking, but that's one of the reasons I wanted a little lower compression when I had my motor built. This motor is a pu$$ycat around town and transitions from little kitty to big cat without hesitation. It's very streetable and a pleasure to drive no matter where you are. Even in stop and go traffic the motor is fine; it's just a pain to have to keep operating the clutch. Definitely an all around performer. Edited for "pu$$ycat"; the spelling police rejected the "P" word. |
Lowell,
Thanks for your reply. I did get the earlier emial on this forum. I am glad to hear you are happy with your Performance Engineering 418 Stroker. I like the fact it can go from city traffic to balls to the wall. without loadign up etc. Rick |
