Edelbrock Water pump question

I bought a Victor FE water pump and I have a dumb question. There are 2 threaded fittings on the pump. One in the back for the water bypass (which I plugged). Another on the top. What is this top fitting for:confused:

I think I can answer my own post. After looking at a picture of someone's cobra.... I think it is for the heater line

Yes, the outlet at the top is for the heater.

Just out of curiosity, why did you plug the bypass connector instead of hooking it up to the fitting on the front of the intake manifold? While I'm certainly not an expert on FE cooling systems, it was my understanding that the bypass was designed into the system to allow for limited coolant flow through the engine before the thermostat opens up, to avoid formation of hot spots in the heads prior to the establishment of normal coolant flow at operating temperature. Why did you decide to shut off this flow?

I spoke to Dennis at DSC and asked him about it beause I didn't know what it was for. The TunnelWedge manifold I have actually came with the plug installed. Dennis told me it was primarily used on street applications and did not have much use on a high performance application.

Then I read some info on the ERA site where Bob Putnam recommends drilling a 1/4" hole in the thermostat flange if you block the bypass. Seems to be mixed opinions about it...several oter seem to have it blocked as well. I'm planning to take the middle road and go with Bob Putnam's smaller bypass in the tstat.
