Mallory ign and rev limitters
My car came with a Mallory system.dist, coil ,HYFIRE IV and a proportional rev limitter # 644(all 87 era). I haven't tested it . I was sure that anything and everything worked and was nessacary.Recently Mallory tech wrote that the #644 proportional rev limitter would not work with the HYFIRE IV. It was intended for a simple distrib and coil setup..My stuff probably pre dates this tech.Could he be wrong ? And why does a new HYFIRE IV cost more than a HYFIRE VI ( Summit prices )?The VI has multiple spark and two stage rev limitter. What am I not understanding or not seeing?
Also has anyone wished they had installed the Mallory voltage spike protector? |
Installed an MSD voltage spike protector primarily to eliminate ignition noise from radio. Big fat 1/2 f capicitor. Warning! Do not touch the terminals of this cap when charged! Insulate this well.
Anyway, MSD, Crane, and Accel have rev limiters built into their CD Boxes. Might be time to upgrade. Do you really need a rev limiter? Would a shift light on your tach be better? Only your driving style will tell. |
It wasn't when to shift it's for missing a shift.Foot down on the gas, the clutch out and no resistance (inbetween gears) ,a broken axle or the like.
